Wix Website Not Showing Up on Google? Here’s Why (and How to Fix It)

You’ve built your Wix website, hit publish, and maybe even shared it with friends. But when you search for your business on Google? Nothing. Frustrating, right?

You’re not alone. Many small business owners run into the same issue—especially if they’ve built their site themselves.

Let’s break down why your Wix site isn’t showing up on Google and what you can do to fix it.

1. Google Doesn’t Know Your Website Exists (Yet)

Just because your site is live doesn’t mean Google knows about it. Wix doesn’t automatically notify Google when your site goes live. You have to do that manually.

How to Fix It:

2. Your Site Isn’t Indexed Yet

Even after submitting your site, Google can take a few days to a few weeks to index it.

You can check if your site is indexed by Googling: site:yoursite.com.

If nothing shows up, it means Google hasn’t added your site to its database yet.

3. Your Site Is Accidentally Hidden from Search Engines

Wix has a setting that, if checked, tells Google not to index your site. A lot of people leave this on by mistake.

How to Fix It:

  • Go to your Wix dashboard

  • Navigate to SEO Settings

  • Make sure “Let search engines index my site” is enabled

One wrong checkbox can keep you invisible online.

4. Your Site Isn’t Optimized for Search

Even if your site is indexed, Google might not rank it if it’s not optimized properly.

Common Wix SEO issues include:

  • No meta titles or descriptions

  • Poor use of keywords

  • Missing alt text on images

  • Thin content (not enough relevant text on your pages)

  • Bad mobile layout or slow load times

How to Fix It:

  • Add SEO titles and meta descriptions to each page

  • Use keywords naturally in your page headings and content

  • Make sure your site loads fast and looks great on mobile

  • Add a Google Business Profile to boost your local visibility

5. You’re Competing for Broad, High-Traffic Keywords

If you’re Googling something like “plumber Toronto” and expecting to see your brand-new Wix site show up, that’s a tall order.

Established businesses have years of SEO history, backlinks, and domain authority. But you can still show up, especially for local, niche searches.

What You Can Do:

  • Target long-tail keywords like: “plumber in Leslieville Toronto” or “affordable contractor Scarborough”

  • Use specific service pages with keywords in the URL and headings

  • Add your business address and service area

You Don’t Have to Figure It Out Alone

Wix makes building a site easier—but getting that site to actually show up on Google takes a little more strategy.
